Went to the Bongo Room on Roosevelt on Sunday, amazing breakfast, fabulous coffees, good vibe and great service. We wish they opened for dinner! well worth the wait...
Terrible Experience says: On Monday 6/1/09 3:24 PM
First, let me say this is the first time I have ever created a posting, but I felt compelled in this instance.
My boyfriend and I flew up to Chicago for the weekend to enjoy the city and take in a baseball game.
I had done some reading and eagerly anticipated eating at the Bongo Room..
The trip was a 20 minute cab ride from our hotel to the restaurant, and then a 45 minute wait - during which the staff was most unpleasant..leaning towards rude.
We were seated only to discover that it was so loud - we could not hear each other speak..
We ordered our food and it arrived quickly - the french toast was soggy, and the omelette left much to be desired. The hashbrowns were cold, as was the bacon, and don't even get me started on the thai chicken sausage...go to Grande Luxe instead, it will cost the same but with better service and they have beignets!

This is my second time here and both times the food was not that great. The second time I came I order the eggs benedict and it is the worst in eggs benedict I've had in my entire life.
I don't understand the fascination with this place. The lines to get a table are so long and the food is bad. There are way better places in this city...

I've been to the Bongo room tiwce. The first time it was very good. The second time, not so good. The hostess was rude and our server seemed annoyed that he had to wait on us. The food was also better the first time. It's a decent meal for your money but if you want friendly service and to be treated with respect, go somewhere else. However, if you want to eat interesting breakfast items like the pear waffles or banana pancakes (with chocolate sauce), you might want to at least try the place and then judge for yourself. Overall, it is inconsistently mediocre to good (depending on the server, cook, and crowdedness of the restaurant). It is a bit uppity and reminded me of somewhere in N.Y. City. (not in a good way).

Please, find yourself a better place for breakfast and don't bother going to The Bongo Room-South Loop. My omelette was completely lackluster, the hashbrowns were mushy and burnt, and the toast was barely warm. Totally disappointed. The menu is totally boring and the food uninspired.

This place has great food, every time. The menu is amazing.
Yes, they are busy. Occasionally you may have to ask for things more than once. It's an insane amount of people they serve and they do it well.
Most of the negative comments on here are from snobby hipsters who love to complain. I've never seen people complain about so many trivial things. (If you don't want to wait in line in 90 degree heat, DON'T GO OUTSIDE.) The prices are extremely reasonable. If you want one waitstaff per table, try an upscale hotel.
OH, by the way? Thanks to the crabby hipsters and their overmassive sense of entitlement, this place seems to have CLOSED. Thanks, guys.

This place is selling CAnned juice and passing it off as fresh squeezed.

I feel that the poster beneath me may well have had the same experience that my fiance and I had this weekend. Normally, I dont post for restaurants, but feel compelled to warm fellow tripadvisor users to stay away from the Bongo Room. Now on to the review.
The Bongo Room came highly recommended by our friends and we were eager to try it. When we arrived the place looked cool and there were a few people waiting. We thought that was fine and waited by the bar area with a a coffee and juice. While we were waiting another patron asked the waiter what he was putting ice cream on, the waiter first pretended not to hear and then mumbled french toast (which was not evident or responsive). When we were seated, we reviewed the menu and our waitress took our order.
She was not friendly, but we are not that demanding, so we did not worry. When we had to request glasses of water four times, we started to wonder, but still we thought that the food would make up for it. It did not, the food ranged from MODERATE TO LOUSY. When we sent back an item, the waitress refused to take it off the bill, despite the fact that it was inevitable.
Really, there is nothing worthwhile at the Bongo Room in the South Loop. Go anywhere else and you will thank yourself.

l I went to Bongo Room last week--my experience was TERRIBLE 1. The hostess incorrectly took my order 2. Then, she lied to the cooks and stated that the "customer changed her mind" as she yelled at them for everyone to hear 3. Then, she brought out a frozen burrito 4. When I told her that the meal was frozen I asked what would take shorter to make (by this point 45 minutes had gone by with no food!). She said "hon, your meal is comped" and shrugged her shoulders. 5. By this point, I informed her that her service was terrible and that I heard her lie about her customer 6. She sarcastically said we should come back 7. Needless to say, no tip was left and I do NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone until the hostess is CHANGED!!

Don't do it. This place is BAD and getting worse. The food is poor and the service poorer. There are plenty of great brunch places in this city, don't waste your time or appetite on this place.
