Easter eggs

Before you feast on roasted lamb, mashed potatoes and pie, take the little ones on a traditional Easter egg hunt at one of these local spots.

Soldier Field
Saturday, April 4, 8:30 a.m.-noon; $17.50 for adults, $12 for children ages 3-10
Soldier Field will celebrate its sixth-annual spring egg hunt this year with a special Easter brunch beginning at 8:30 a.m. We recommend getting your reservation in early for this one, as more than 4,000 adults and children are expected to attend the event. Mom and Dad will get to watch from the stands on Soldier Field's jumbo TV screens while little Susie and Johnny scavenge the stadium for eggs. Reservations are required and should be made by Friday, April 3 by calling (312) 235-7096.

Wunder's Cemetery, 3963 N. Clark
Saturday, April 4, 10 a.m.-noon; free
Yeah, we thought it was a joke at first, too. But it turns out there's no fooling around here, just plenty of hidden eggs, complimentary refreshments and, of course, tombstones. Wunder's is hosting the neighborhood egg hunt not just in celebration of the bunny, but also in honor of the cemetery's 150th anniversary. Parents are asked to attend with their children for the duration of the Easter egg hunt. Reservations can be made by emailing wunders_cemetery@sbcglobal.net or by calling (773) 525-4038. In the event of rain, the event will take place on Saturday, April 11 from 10 a.m.-noon.

Kilbourn Park & Organic Green House, 3501 N. Kilbourn
Saturday, April 4, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; $7 for children ages 2-10, $4 for adults
Scavenging for treats at Kilbourn Park's annual Easter egg hunt is just one reason to attend this bunny bonanza. The real focus of the event is an indulgent lunch with the Easter bunny. In addition to the family-friendly feast, there will be face painting, games, prizes and plenty of photo ops (bring your own camera).

Frontier Sports Complex, 2720 95th Street, Naperville
Saturday, April 11, 10 a.m.; free
On the eve of Easter, Naperville will host its annual egg hunt at the Frontier Sports Complex for children ages 1-8. Kids are encouraged to bring their own baskets to collect all those sweet findings. Check out napervilleparks.org for more information.

Horner Park, 2741 W. Montrose
Saturday, April 4, 10 a.m.-noon; $5 per dog
Easter egg hunts aren't just for kids, at least not at Horner Park. The recreational spot is planning a special Doggie egg hunt this year. All dogs in attendance will have the chance to score Fido-friendly treats and partake in plenty of activities including a spring bonnet parade and photo ops with the Easter Bunny (available for purchase). The event takes place in the back of the building on the hill. Some activities require pre-registration, so show up early.

Chicago Women's Park and Gardens, 1800 S. Prairie
Saturday, April 11, noon-2 p.m.; $10 for children, $3 for adults
The Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance is celebrating Easter with an egg hunt in the Chicago Women's Park and Gardens (between Clarke House and Glessner House). The event, geared toward children 10 and under, will include approximately 5,000 hidden eggs (each complete with a small prize or candy inside), a baby animal zoo, prizes, treats and a special visit with the Easter Bunny himself. For more information contact the Glessner House Museum at (312) 326-1480.

Check out the Chicago Park District's website for more kid-friendly Easter egg hunts.
